If your child is struggling to focus at school or has issues with regulating emotions, you might be wondering whether ADHD is the issue. This problem has become much more well-known over the past few years, which is great for reducing stigma but not so great for NHS waiting lists for assessments. Consequently, you might be considering a private assessment.
At the Child Mental Health Clinic in Camberley, Surrey we understand how worrying and exhausting this journey can feel. That is why we offer clear, compassionate and evidence-based private ADHD assessments for children and young people, tailored to the needs of each family we support.
Since being founded in 2017, our work has been driven by one core aim: to raise the standard of children’s mental health services. In this article, we explain what to expect from a private ADHD assessment at CMHC, and how we support families every step of the way.
Many families come to us after long waits for NHS assessments or because they want a more personalised approach. A private ADHD assessment at CMHC offers:
Our goal is not just diagnosis, but understanding your child as a whole person.
Children and young people with ADHD may experience challenges such as:
These traits can overlap with anxiety, mood difficulties, autism or learning differences. That is why a thorough assessment is essential.
Our ADHD diagnostic assessments are NICE-compliant and led by highly experienced Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists.

The main assessment appointment usually lasts between 90 minutes and 2 hours and is usually held at our clinic in Camberley, although online appointments can be requested.
During this session, the Consultant Psychiatrist will explore:
We take time to ensure your child feels comfortable and heard.
Following the appointment, all available information is carefully reviewed and integrated. This allows us to reach an evidence-based clinical conclusion.
In some cases, we may identify co-occurring difficulties such as Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), mood-related challenges, anxiety, or autistic traits. Where these are significant, we will discuss further assessment or follow-up options with you.
At the end of the assessment, one of our consultants will share their findings and initial recommendations with you. This is followed by a detailed written report, which includes:
This report can be shared with schools, GPs and other professionals as needed.
If medication is considered appropriate, our team will discuss this fully with you, including benefits, risks and monitoring. We believe ongoing support is just as important as diagnosis, and we work closely with families to review progress and adjust treatment plans where necessary.
