Many adults regret not having a mental health assessment earlier in life. It means they realise that the challenges they faced when younger make more sense.
Adolescence can be a turbulent time, and it’s a period when we’re finding our identity. It’s also when we’re in education and without the right support, there can be long-term consequences. Treatments can ensure that your child ultimately fulfils their full potential.
Whether you’re concerned your child has ADHD, autism or OCD, an assessment is the first step in helping them access the support they need. This is particularly crucial if they’re still in education, but can also help them get the support they need in the workplace.
Our experienced psychiatrists in Surrey can carry out a range of professional assessments, including those for:
- ADHD. This process usually begins with completing screening questionnaires and a QB assessment, a computer based test. If you suspect your child does have ADHD, we offer a comprehensive assessment conducted by our experienced consultant (child and adolescent psychiatrists or neuro-developmental paediatrician).
- Autism (ASD). Our diagnostic assessments involve a number of steps, including multi-disciplinary assessment using structured diagnostic tools including the ADi-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised) and ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnosis Observation Schedule-2). These are considered “gold standard” assessment measures in the evaluation of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
- Paediatric Neuro-developmental Assessment (NDA). A detailed and comprehensive evaluation of your child’s abilities, difficulties, and needs. This is carried out by our experienced Consultant Paediatrician who has great expertise in this field.
- Psychiatric Assessments. If you’re worried about your child’s mental health, our psychiatrists will explore this in detail taking consideration of their development history, family history, history of concerns and current impairment, and more.
