Here at the Child Mental Health Clinic, we provide you with support, diagnose and help. If you suspect that your child has autism, but they have not been previously diagnosed, then we can help. We will start the process off by completing an initial psychiatric assessment which is completed by Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. Within this initial stage, you will be able to openly discuss your concerns and why your child might have autism. This appointment normally takes around 90 minutes to complete.
If after having the initial consultation there is a positive screening for autism, we would then recommend having a full ASD assessment completed. This will include receiving relevant information from you and the school, we then use structure diagnostic tools to evaluate if autism is present. Once the assessment is complete, you will be able to attend a feedback appointment where we will provide all of our findings along with recommendations.
We completely understand that this can be a worrying time for you and a confusing time for your child. We make sure all assessments are completed in a caring manner where your child and you feel as relaxed as possible. We are here to help provide you with advice on how best to manage autism for now and in the future.
