FAQ’s

How do I arrange an appointment?

You can arrange an appointment by either calling 07818 262 986 , sending us an email at admin@cmhclinic.co.uk or by completing our Contact Us page.

We accept self-referrals, but it is always good practice to ask your GP to write a letter of referral. This will ensure that we have all the relevant information about your history, medication etc., before the appointment.

The clinic operates seven days a week with daytime, evening and weekend appointments. You can call us on 07818 262 986 to find out when the next available appointment is. Calls may be recorded for training and quality purposes.

Should I see a Psychiatrist, Psychologist or other Therapist?

When thinking about the type of clinician you may wish to see first, it is worth considering the type of difficulty that you are having as well as the severity. If you are unsure, please call us and a member of our clinical team will be available to discuss with you the options and help you decide on the best course of treatment for you.

What's the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist?

A psychiatrist is a fully qualified medical doctor specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health problems. They complete their general medical training and then go on to specialise in psychiatry. As a psychiatrist is medically qualified they can also make a full diagnosis and investigate any physical causes that may have an impact on mental health. They can prescribe medication if needed as well as use their therapy skills like cognitive behavioural therapy. A psychologist, in comparison, completes an undergraduate degree in psychology, and may then specialise in one of many areas such as education, personality and psychometric testing, or mental health problems, which is known as clinical psychology. Psychologists will use talking therapy to treat patients but are unable to prescribe medication.

How do I know that the therapist I will be seeing is fully qualified?

Every practitioner working at Child Mental Health Clinic has been trained to the highest standards and has had many years’ experience working with patients. At CMHC, each individual practitioner is required to go through a rigorous process, providing evidence of their training, appraisal and has appropriate indemnity insurance and DBS check. Every individual practitioner is also required to engage in continual professional development, supervision and regular appraisal.
